A mile of Anti-slip Strips for Scruton Railway Platform

The Wensleydale Railway operates heritage diesel train services between Scruton and Leyburn, offering exciting days out for families and both rail and history enthusiasts alike. The Railway provides spectacular scenery whist allowing visitors to preview restored historic stations and learn more about the 1900s way of life, all whilst enjoying free guided tours with their costumed 'living history' interpreters.

Scruton station in particular, based in North Yorkshire, is an award-winning recreation of how a small country station would have been in Victorian times. On most running days it is staffed by volunteers in period costume who will guide guests around the station and explain what rural life was like over 100 years ago. On most days ‘Percy’s Tea Shop’ will be open selling hot and cold drinks, ice-creams and confectionary.

With the platform being constructed entirely of timber, it was essential that the maintenance team at the station found a solution to both improve the longevity of the wood throughout the winter months and reduce the risk of slipping for visitors. Additionally, they needed a way of visually marking the 'no step zone' closest to the live tracks.

The solution? Safe Tread Non-Slip Strips.

With a wide range of colours and lengths to choose from the team were able to source an easy-to-install solution that ticked all the boxes. Utilising both grey and yellow colour options, they covered the entire platform with over 1,500 metres of anti-slip GRP strips, just 57 metres short of a mile! Over 6,500 screws were used in total to secure the strips to the platform of which were laid out into 23 rows of 22 lengths, each measuring 3m long.
