Overview
Anti-Slip Strips for Non-Slip Decking and Steps – Durable, Effective Safety Solution
Wooden decking is a popular choice for both commercial and residential spaces, valued for its natural aesthetic and durability. However, over time, exposure to moisture, algae, and moss can create dangerously slippery surfaces, increasing the risk of slips, trips, and falls—especially in wet weather.
Our high-quality anti-slip decking strips provide a long-lasting, cost-effective solution to improve grip and enhance safety on timber decking, steps, and walkways. Manufactured from durable composite material with an advanced non-slip coating, these strips offer exceptional slip resistance in all weather conditions.
Easy to install with screws or adhesive, our non-slip decking strips are available in various sizes and colours to complement any outdoor setting. Ideal for gardens, patios, schools, pubs, care homes, workplaces, and public spaces, they provide an immediate safety upgrade without compromising the look of your decking.

False economies
Many homeowners and businesses attempt to tackle slippery decking with pressure washing, wood cleaners, gritted paint, or anti-slip tape. While these methods may provide a short-term improvement, they are far from a permanent fix.
- Pressure washing temporarily removes algae and moss but does not prevent regrowth, requiring frequent, time-consuming maintenance.
- Wood cleaners can enhance surface grip for a short period, but without a long-lasting non-slip treatment, the problem quickly returns.
- Gritted paint and anti-slip tape wear away over time, especially in high-traffic areas, requiring frequent reapplication and increasing long-term costs.
Instead of opting for temporary solutions that demand constant upkeep, our anti-slip decking strips provide a durable, weather-resistant, and cost-effective alternative. Designed for year-round slip prevention, they require minimal maintenance and remain effective even in wet and frosty conditions.
A cost-effective solution - how to make decking and steps non slip
With a gritted surface giving excellent traction, Safe Tread Decking Strips are a quick and easy solution to improving safety in potential slip hazard areas, whilst preserving an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
For damp, wet and frosty conditions, our non-slip strips are made from tough, hard wearing and durable GRP, corrosion and fungus resistant. They will not rot, twist or warp and will last for years.
Technical Specifications
- Anti Slip - gritted surface tested in accordance with BS7976-2. It provides an exceptional level of slip resistance in all directions. Lifespan guaranteed for 10 years subject to standard use applications.

Installation
Anti-Slip Decking Strips installation guide
Cutting of Decking Strips (where required)
We can do this for you, simply select the cut to size option and enter the exact sizes you require.
Our anti slip decking strips can easily be cut to size or shape with a hacksaw, however if you are planning to cut a large amount of strips this can be carried out with orbital cutting equipment with either a stone or diamond blade. Cutting should be carried out externally or where there is dust extraction/suitable ventilation and appropriate protective equipment should be worn.
Preparation of decking area / steps
Sweep clean the installation area.
Mechanical fixing for Decking Strips
When supplied pre-drilled, decking / step strips will already have holes drilled as per point 1 below. No need to countersink, the pre-drilled holes will allow our screws to self countersink, provided a good fixing is achieved.
- Fixing is generally recommended centrally max 50mm in from each end and with a maximum distance between the remaining holes of 250mm, again centrally.
- If using a cordless screwdriver ensure correct torque setting in order to avoid over tightening and stripping.
- To attain a firm fit to the decking screws should be fastened consecutively either left to right or right to left.
The installer should ensure that the substrate is of sufficient quality to achieve a secure fixing.
Miscellaneous
The installation instructions make no claim to being comprehensive but should be used as a guide. Always employ safe practices. It's recommended that to first test the suitability of any fixing method on a small area before carrying out a full installation programme.
Installation service
A fitting service is available if required. Please call 01206 227 660 for a quote.
Maintenance
Cleaning Decking Strips
Use of a stiff brush will usually be sufficient to remove everyday dirt and debris. For more stubborn items try a mild detergent with warm water. Prior to carrying out a full cleaning programme it's advisable to first test the suitability of the detergent on a small inconspicuous area.
Pressure wash
If conditions allow, a pressure washer on a low setting can be used to clean the Decking Strips. However, if the strips have been secured with an adhesive agent or sealed with a sealant repeated use of a pressure washer could undermine the integrity of the adhesive / sealant. Again, prior to carrying out a full cleaning programme it's advisable to first test the suitability of the pressure wash on a small inconspicuous area.
General routine maintenance
The security of any fixings and the integrity of the products gritted surface and GRP substrate should be checked on a regular basis. The frequency of which will depend on the nature and volume of footfall. As a guide, for high traffic areas monthly inspections would be advisable.
